UNITED SOCCER ACADEMY
Beyond the Field: Cultivating Values, Celebrating
Diversity, Uniting our City
A BRIEF HISTORY
Tyron Altern (Managing Director) was a soccer coach at several clubs and schools but was always left disappointed that the focus was more on winning than the development of the players themselves. When his two sons were ready to play soccer and he was looking for a club to enrol them in, a dream was born in his heart about starting his own soccer academy where children could develop in a safe environment and most importantly have fun.
In 2020, Tyron was appointed Sports Director at Redwood College, La Lucia, where he launched his academy. Starting modestly with 14 players, a few second-hand balls, and some cones, the academy faced an early challenge with the COVID-19 closure in March 2020. However, it was successfully relaunched later that year and has been thriving ever since. By the end of 2023, the academy boasted 100 registered players and a team of 10 head coaches, each dedicated to specific age groups ranging from U7 to U17.
Hosted at Redwood College, the academy benefits from a collaborative relationship with the school. Many Redwood students join the academy, enhancing the school’s soccer profile, while the academy’s presence attracts external interest, serving as an effective promotion for the school. This partnership grants year-round access to the fields, a privilege not shared by many local
clubs.
Our academy is based in the heart of La Lucia and is extremely safe with ample parking for parents and supporters. The surroundings are beautiful, and parents can enjoy a cappuccino from the onsite coffee shop or take a walk through the school conservancy while their children train.
